Not sure if this is a hardware problem but here goes....
Occasionally, mainly when playing CS but not always, my screen will go black and my computer wont respond. I was told that it could be overheating but I've been told alot of diffent crap. |

Actually that happens to me useless, not sure its the same prob but i ahve a 17"tft and a lead connects to the monitor and from the endof thet lead is a figure of 8 lead that connects to a small box thing. then from that the mains. when i slightly split the figure of 8 with the box. My monitor makes a funny squealing noise and it goes black. But i can still hear css through speakers. Very frustrating when you are in game.
Not sure if this is the same problem though. |

| no its not the same problem, cause sound stops (speakers part of monitor) and when i press caps lock the light on my keyboard doesnt go on/off (my way of testing) |

I had trouble with lock-ups, blackouts and reboots. Also had memory read error messages or blue screens. I turned the memory voltage up by 0.1 volts and completely stabelised the system. Dont go any higher than 0.2v over because you risk frying the memory.

If you hold the DEL key when you power the PC up you should end up in the BIOS setup menu. Look for a section called 'Frequency and voltage control'. It may have a slightly different name but you get the idea. Go in and look for memory voltage. If you get lost or confused its probably better to have somebody look at it a troubleshoot the fault. But worth trying before you shell out any cash.

| the problem with the black screen probably isn't an overheating issue, because when the temperature gets too high inside of the computer, it will shut itself down, this is a failsafe thing to prevent the heat from damaging any pc components. |

Anyway, it's probably an incompatibility issue with your graphics card. Make sure you've installed the latest drivers and stop any background processes that you don't need. |

All righty, I not normally the one to do the asking but I have just got Lord Wards system and only changed the ram and hard drives in it and it just reboots on me when at load. Im thinking it could be a PSU issue as this pc has a 500w £18 PSU in it. The fustrating thing is that I spent ages formatting it all and sorting it all out for it not to work and not be able to run games. Does anyone else have any ideas? The PC reboots when loading a BF2 map, once while idle just downloading a file, and it makes beeping noises when running 3DMARK05 and reboots. It is not an overheating issue as i have good cooling now. The spec is as follows:
P4 3.0
Abit IS7 Mobo
4 x 512 Exilir PC3200 ram
Asus geforce 6800GT agp
Maxtor 250bg HD SATA
Maxtor 250bg HD IDE
Sound Blaster Audigy
Samsung DVD writer.
Please help me,

have you got compatible memory cos it has dual channel? try with one memory only. If it runs use memtest softwares.

Boost the memory voltage up to 2.75v and see what happens.
Try pulling as many power eating bits you dont need. The extra HD, DVD and take a couple of the memory sticks out.

timmy have you clocked your processor?
As you have got a abit board pull up your guru monitering software and run prime 95 the stress testing software, let it run for at least an hour and see what happens, keep an eye on all your temperatures and stuff

Thanks guys ill try changing the ram voltage. the ram can run in dual channel and i don't have anything that i can disconnect form the PSU, i need it all. I havent overclocked anything on this PC either. I formatted to see if it was a software related issue but it isnt Ill tell you how it goes.

Ok Saint you gave me the idea to check what voltage my ram should run at and check it against what it was set in the bios. My bios was giving 2.55v instead of the 2.6v it should be getting, so i just changed it to 2.6v and i have been able to run BF2 and 3DMARK05 with no probs. Thanks for the help guys.
