huge pings at random times....
Hey guys, id like to know if anyone else has been experienceing HUGE pings on all 3 servers at random times. It seems i can play for ages, then all of a sudden my pings goes up to 700-900 and stays there. It is mainly, but not always, when some of the maps are heavily populated. Although i just tried again and my ping was 300 with only about 12 ppl over all 3 maps. Also i was playing happily today on a crowded dust2 with a ping of 50-60 for a long time. Its pretty fucked up cos this is really the only server i wanna play on :( tried EWA and ukfast.net office #2 and didnt really like either of them. Only the csjunky servers are affected tho cos even whilst my ping goes up to 900 here i can play happily with a ping of 30 at other servers. I live in the middle of edinburgh now, with a 3mb/s connection and its not my cpu/gfx card. I can only surmise that something must be up with the server so i want to know - Does anyone else experience this problem? Does it matter that the server is in france? Is this post too long already??

I do sometimes get 300-400 becuase the servers are in France. If something goes tits up on the Euro backbones it can cause ping spikes. It may also depend on your ISP, how they route traffic and how much capacity they have connected to Europe.

hey saint, Glad to know im not entirely alone on this one. My ISP is Bulldog and i cant change that at the minute. Ill have to see how it goes from now on as im determined to keep playing here :-) Was the fact that the server is in france a cost issue? I seem to be able to connect to german servers just fine..bloody germans!

Yeah, cost issue. Amenworld have extremeley cheap dedicated servers with unlimited bandwidth and I've used them before so I knew things would be mostly good. If I win the lottery I'll splash out on some UK based duel Xeon servers 8)

I have experienced that same problem. Especially after that notorious 23/9 update. I haven't been able to play much on Saints servers after that update cos almost everytime i try to connect the ping is between 400-1000. Haven't noticed any difference in the number of players. 0-24 it doesn't matter for me. Didn't have this problem too often before, maybe once/2weeks or so. It's really annoying, just as there is players i can't play! =) And today i got in office server wiith reasonable ping, but my fps was like 20. Pheewh. I'm having an e-mail discussion with people from steam and their trying to provide me an solution. Maybe the frenchies knocked out a telephone line or something? ;)
